Behind the scenes

Kate and Steve (10th July 2010)

The marriage ceremony was held at the beautiful St. Etheldreda’s Church, followed by the reception in Bleeding Heart Yard, London. Unfortunately I was not able to make it to ceremony as I was running a dance class in Birmingham in the morning, however I managed to jump on a train and join Barry after the ceremony outside the church.

The Father conducting the ceremony allowed Barry to take as many photos as he wanted which is always a good start. As I wasn’t there during the ceremony I was unable to capture Barry’s facial expression when he’s deep in concentration – which was a shame as he pulls some crackers!

After meeting the lovely Steve and Kate outside the church we all walked to the Bleeding Heart restaurant, which is tucked away, behind a secret hidden door in the corner of a cobbled courtyard, providing a private and intimate setting for the reception.

The venue is decorated in a very homely style, with framed drawings, fireplaces, mirrors and wooden panels, which although was very dark from a photographer point of view, it was a truly romantic setting.

Speeches brought friends and family into the main room, where we were struggling for space. It was impossible to push to the front crowd so I resulted in climbing onto the window ledge to try and get crowd reactions to speeches.

A sneaky peek over to see how Barry was getting on standing on a chair at the back!

Look who’s busy changing his lens in the blurry corner of the shot below – I love the women’s expression in this photo, shame Barry’s lens switching ruined it :)

The speeches were great – its always good to hear about the bride and groom, and I must say there was equal amounts of sentiment and humour. I saw Barry having a little chuckle at one joke (which I won’t repeat) which got everyone smiling.

While I had stationed myself (didn’t want to lose my spot), Barry was on the move, to attempt to get a little closer to Kate and Steve. Whata mistaka to maka – blocked! Funny photo – wheres Barry?

New gear

Tuesday, July 27th, 2010

Recently bought some Elinchrom D Lite 4′s, had enough of hiring. I really like how light these lights are so hopefully will make use of them outdoors. I also bought a white backdrop support and some arctic white paper, much better than the muslin cloth.

Here’s the first couple of shots taken with the new set up. Needs tweaking but its a start.

Strobist session

Saturday, May 29th, 2010

On Monday I attended a strobist workshop lead my David Hobby, creator of the globally very popular blog, The Strobist. The McNally inspired blog looks at how we can use small speedlights/strobes of the camera to create awesome images.

Though this is probably inpratical to use during the fast pace of a wedding, it’s great for portrait photography, especially when you like to get out of the studio and make use of the environment around us.

Will add some Strobist inspired images soon!

Easter Sunday Bubble fun

Monday, April 5th, 2010

With my parents on a 6 week holiday around the States visiting family, (jammy g*ts) I spent Easter Sunday at the In-Laws. Big turkey dinner and Evie and Martha were there all day. As we arrived they were in the back playing with bubbles, so as you’d expect i got the camera out… I’m never more than and arms length away from him!! :)

Appologies for the duplication, I think I will resave these images as lightroom (the tool I use to edit the images saved these files a little lower, trying to reduce the time it takes to load the page… however the images in this post are pretty pixcelated.. hence me re-uploading a second version… I’ll stop waffling now.. its 02:25 am.. i need some sleep. :) )
