Wedding Trends 2009 – 2010

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Just as fashion reinvents its self every year, so does wedding trends. The cat walk and the aisle have many things in common; the hundreds of guests snapping away is just one of them.

We have a look at just a few things that guests may be expecting over the next year.

Wedding favours

Wedding favours are becoming more and more practical, weather this has anything to do with the credit crunch I don’t know, but they serve two purposes. Firstly for your guests to remember your special day, and secondly a thank you to your guests, by way of handing over a useful item. Now I should point out this doesn’t mean giving out JML toasty bags, or magical silicon oven mitts. The modern way of saying thank you to your guests could include tasty dessert recipes, or at one wedding recently plant seeds / bulbs. The key is to make the item personal to you, that way you will ensure it will be a memorable gift.

The reception

While budgets are little concern to some couples, the vast majority of use will be more than aware of their threshold.

Many people believe that trends ion 2009 – 2010 will reflect this, and focus far more on the fundamentals of the day, rather than the showmanship that often goes hand in hand with weddings. Weddings may go back to basics, but more special than ever.

Couples will be more environmentally aware, using biologically and ecologically-friendly materials in the fabrics worn by the bride and the groom, and use locally sourced suppliers and produce where possible.

The internet

Couples have used the internet to compare and contrast services for years now, and that will continue. However, due to the increase in users on social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter, over the past 2 – 3 year many couples will use there networks to engage with there guests, from tweeting about the wedding preparations, to chasing up RSVP’s to sharing images.

There are many sites out there providing couples with an online presence, for example Our Big Day give a one page site with online RSVP, direction and gift list details. While this may not completely make the printed invite redundant, it can have environmental benefits.

Photography

Over the past couple of years, more couples are asking more photo journalistic, documentary style shots than ever. Formal shots will always be popular, and essential to the special day, but wedding photography has never been so creative, and that’s why  Barry Khan Photography are so passionate about wedding photography.

I couldn’t take as many shots as I’d like, as I had best man duties, but managed to really capture the moment here.

The next two shots (not shown here) show two of the girls catching the bouquet, but one eventually securing the victory, whilst immediately gloating to the loser.
